Access and permissions in Customers

What you can see and do depends on modules and features switched on for your organisation and the permissions in your roles. Both must allow it.

Modules and features

Module or featureWhat it switches on
Customer (needs Partner)All of Customers
Party, with Person or OrganizationCreating identities and showing names, addresses and contacts
Customer feature GroupsCustomer groups
Customer feature HoldsHolds
Customer feature NotesInternal notes
Customer feature External referencesExternal system references
Customer feature Address assignmentsBilling, shipping and other address assignments
Customer feature Contact assignmentsPurchasing, invoicing and other contact assignments

When Customer or Partner is off, or you lack customer.view, you see Customers unavailable: "Customer access requires enabled Customer and Partner modules and customer.view permission."

Permissions

Customer accountscustomer.viewcreate customer.create; edit customer.update; status changes customer.manage
Credit settings and holdscustomer.credit.viewcredit customer.credit.manage; holds customer.hold.manage

Creating a customer also needs party.view and partner.view. To create a new identity you need party.create; to create a new Partner, partner.create.

Seeing names and addresses comes from Party: party.view, party.address.view and party.contact.view. Without them the customer shows IDs, for example "Party address #812 — shared read permission unavailable".

Example roles at Bright Home Supplies:

PersonPermissions
Farah (accounts)customer.view, create, update; credit.view; hold.manage; note.view, note.manage; party.view, party.create; partner.view, partner.create
Nadia (sales)customer.view; credit.view; note.view; party.view

Permissions are read when you sign in. After an administrator changes them, sign out and in, or select Refresh access on the Customers unavailable page.
