Split payments and multiple-invoice allocations

The model supports several receipts paying one invoice and one receipt paying several invoices. Every allocation must satisfy the same customer, unit, currency, state and balance checks described in Allocate to an invoice.

Pattern 1: two receipts pay one bill

ActionReceipt statusInvoice due
Post invoice—327.60
Create/post receipt A, allocate 200A: Allocated127.60
Create/post receipt B, allocate 127.60B: Allocated0

Use separate receipt records because two real transfers occurred. The pair-uniqueness rule does not prevent a different receipt from paying the same invoice.

Pattern 2: one receipt pays two bills

Café Aroma sends 500 covering invoice 501 for 327.60 and invoice 502 for 172.40.

StepAllocationReceipt allocated totalAvailableReceipt status
Post receipt 50000500Posted
Allocate to invoice 501327.60327.60172.40Partially allocated
Allocate to invoice 502172.405000Allocated

Both invoices become Paid if those were their current due balances. Check the remittance's invoice numbers; the system does not automatically choose oldest or largest bills for you.

Pattern 3: one receipt partly pays a second bill

The same 500 receipt is applied to invoice 501 due 327.60 and invoice 503 due 300:

TargetAllocationInvoice due afterwards
Invoice 501327.600
Invoice 503172.40127.60

The receipt is Allocated, but invoice 503 is Partially paid. A future actual receipt can settle its 127.60 remainder.

Pattern 4: some receipt money stays on account

A receipt for 400 pays invoice 501's current due 327.60. The receipt is Partially allocated with Available 72.40, and that invoice is Paid.

Keep the 72.40 visible until there is an agreed compatible target or an authorised separate resolution. Do not allocate it above zero due just to make Available zero. See Money on account.

The important limit: no topping up the same pair

Suppose receipt A is 200 and invoice 501 is due 327.60. Staff allocate only 100 from A to 501:

ResultValue
Receipt A allocated100
Receipt A available100
Invoice 501 due227.60

You cannot add another A→501 allocation of 100. That pair already exists even though both balances are positive. There is no allocation-edit button to enlarge the first entry.

Do not create a second receipt for the same real transfer merely to work around the rule. Refer the existing allocation for an agreed Accounts/support correction, or use the remaining money only for another genuine compatible obligation with correct instructions.

A remittance planning table

Before allocating, prepare a small comparison:

Reload balances if review takes time or another user is working on the same account. A paper/remittance plan does not reserve the online invoice balance.
