Move stock between locations
Use a stock transfer whenever goods physically move: from one shelf to another in the same warehouse, or from one warehouse to another.
Where:
Who: inventory.stock.transfer, plus access to the business units of both warehouses.
Common moves
| Situation | From | To |
|---|---|---|
| Put away a delivery | Main Warehouse / RECV | Main Warehouse / A-01-01 |
| Prepare stock for orders | Main Warehouse / A-01-02 | Main Warehouse / DISPATCH (the default location) |
| Restock the shop | Main Warehouse / A-01-01 | City Shop Store / BACK |
| Put damaged goods aside | Main Warehouse / A-01-02 | Main Warehouse / DAMAGED |
Steps

- Fill in the form:
| Field | What to enter | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Product | What's moving | Cotton T-shirt |
| Product Variant | The exact variant | Blue / Large |
| Source Warehouse | Where it's coming from | Main Warehouse |
| Source Location | Where inside it | A-01-01 |
| Destination Warehouse | Where it's going to (can be the same warehouse) | City Shop Store |
| Destination Location | Where inside it | BACK |
| Quantity | How many units | 20 |
| Reference Code | Required, for example the transfer note number | TN-0103 |
| Notes | Optional | Weekend restock; van 2 |
- Select Transfer Stock. (Reset clears the form.)
What you'll see: "Stock transferred successfully", and the Updated Stock Balance panel showing the stock at the destination.
Before and after
Moving 20 Blue / Large T-shirts from Main Warehouse / A-01-01 to City Shop Store / BACK:
| Location | Before: On Hand / Reserved / Available | After |
|---|---|---|
| Main Warehouse / A-01-01 | 100 / 30 / 70 | 80 / 30 / 50 |
| City Shop Store / BACK | 15 / 0 / 15 | 35 / 0 / 35 |
The total across both locations is still 115. A transfer changes where stock is, not how much you have.
What the system records
One transfer creates two linked entries in :
- TRANSFER_OUT −20 at the source;
- TRANSFER_IN +20 at the destination.
It also adds a line to (Transfer history), showing the Transfer ID, product, variant, source, destination and quantity.
Only available stock can be moved
You can move up to the Available quantity at the source, not the full On Hand. Reserved stock stays where it is. Asking for more gives "Insufficient available stock for transfer."
Example: A-01-01 has 100 on hand and 30 reserved. You can move at most 70.
Release the reservation, move the stock, then reserve it again at the new location. If the reservation belongs to a sales order, ask the order owner first.
