Pricing rules
Who: administrators (maintained by an administrator or support; no screen yet).
A pricing rule (condition record) adds, takes away or sets an amount. Each rule has a type, a value, and optional filters saying where it applies.
Rule types
| Type | Effect | When | Example |
|---|---|---|---|
| BASE_PRICE | Sets the unit price | Step 1 | Café Aroma mugs 4.10 |
| CUSTOMER_DISCOUNT | Discount | Step 2, added to other discounts | 5% for Café Aroma |
| VOLUME_DISCOUNT | Discount | Step 2 | 3% from 50 mugs |
| PROMOTION_DISCOUNT | Discount | Step 2 | 10% Black Friday, 27–30 Nov |
| SURCHARGE | Charge before tax | Step 3 | Gift box 0.25 per mug |
| TAX | Tax on the taxable amount | Step 4 | VAT 20% |
| FREIGHT | Charge once per order | Step 5 | 8.00 per order |
| ROUNDING | Rounds the order total | Step 6 | Nearest 0.05 |
Rule fields
| Field | Meaning | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Name | Shown in the breakdown | November mug promotion |
| Value type | Percentage, Fixed amount (per unit; per order for freight), or price | Percentage |
| Value | The number | 10 |
| Currency | For fixed amounts | GBP |
| Product, Variant | Optional filters | Ceramic Mug |
| Customer, Business unit, Warehouse | Optional filters | (blank) |
| Minimum quantity, Maximum quantity | Optional quantity range | 50 / (none) |
| Valid from, Valid to | Optional dates | 2026-11-01 / 2026-11-30 |
| Priority | Tie-breaker: lower first. Default 100 | 100 |
| Active | Inactive rules are ignored | Yes |
Blank filters mean "any". A rule with no product applies to every product.
Which rule wins
For each rule type, only one rule applies to a line: the best match.
Specificity points for each filter that matches the order:
| Filter matched | Points |
|---|---|
| Customer | 30 |
| Variant | 20 |
| Product | 10 |
| Business unit | 5 |
| Warehouse | 5 |
Example: three CUSTOMER_DISCOUNT rules match a Café Aroma mug line:
| Rule | Filters | Points | Priority | Used? |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| All customers 2% | none | 0 | 100 | |
| Café Aroma 5% | Customer | 30 | 100 | Yes |
| Café Aroma mugs 7% | Customer + Product | 40 | 100 | Yes, if it exists: it beats the 5% rule |
Because each type gives only one rule, a customer discount and a promotion both apply (different types), but two promotions never stack.
