Enter and edit donation drafts

A draft records the donation details and proposed allocations. Saving it does not post a receipt, create a journal or collect money.

Selecting UNIDENTIFIED clears Party and public-anonymity choice. It represents an unknown identity; it does not conceal a known one.

Create a donation

  1. Open Donations → New draft donation.
  2. Select the correct active authorised unit.
  3. Choose donor identity and select the active donor when identified.
  4. Record public-anonymity preference only where applicable.
  5. Enter currency and exact total, then all allocation rows.
  6. Review the total and any private notes.
  7. Save the draft and inspect its detail: unit, donor type, amount, currency, DRAFT state and original allocations.

Edit a draft

Open detail and choose Edit draft. The current browser requires charity.donation.sensitive.view in addition to update/read rights before editing, so redacted private notes cannot be overwritten accidentally. The guard applies even when notes look empty to the viewer.

Review the full form, keep intended notes and allocations, enter a reason and save. Business unit cannot change. A stale version reloads current values; compare them with the requested correction before resubmitting. Posted and terminal records cannot be edited through this form.

Example: A GBP 250 draft initially allocates 200 to General and 50 to Education. Before posting, change it to 150/100, supply a reason and verify the new saved total remains 250.

Recovery

An allocation mismatch blocks save; correct the rows rather than rounding silently. If a creation response is uncertain, use Retry original creation with the stored original request. Do not start another donation or clear browser storage to remove the warning. See Retries.

An unsupported posting currency can still be a valid draft currency. Draft acceptance is not proof that finance can post it; Currency and dates explains the stricter posting checks.
