Number and identity distinctions

A donation ID, internal payment ID/number, journal ID, revision ID and operation ID serve different purposes. The payment number is internal; it is not a donor acknowledgement, statutory tax receipt or bank transaction reference. Sponsorships use their record ID rather than a generated sponsorship number.

Fund totals do not identify which sponsor paid a commitment. Current sponsorships are not linked to donations. A coverage report counts sponsorship relationships, not cash received or arrears.

Example: One GBP 250 gift split between two funds produces one initial internal receipt and one initial journal containing four tagged lines. It does not create two separate gifts or two sponsor instalments.
