Start and find sponsorships
A sponsorship records a donor's commitment to a beneficiary, facility or programme through an active restricted fund. It does not collect money, create a donation or track paid instalments.
Before you start
You need CHARITY, CHARITY_SPONSORSHIP, CARE and the applicable sponsorship view/manage authorities. The sponsor must be an active Party with DONOR role. Fund and target IDs are validated against the current tenant.
Beneficiary selection shows only sponsorable alias profiles. Care determines eligibility: active/on-leave status, not protected, current SPONSOR_PROFILE_SHARING consent and an alias. The sponsorship officer does not need a Care facility grant to read that alias projection.

The current browser initially displays GBP and a prefilled date. These are form values to review, not evidence of your tenant finance policy or an automatic collection schedule. Sponsorship commitment validation is separate from financial donation posting validation.
Steps
- Open Charity → Sponsorships, check existing records and filters.
- In Start a sponsorship, select the verified active donor.
- Choose Supports and the exact eligible target.
- Select an active restricted fund and enter commitment details.
- Review dates, currency, frequency and notes.
- Choose Start sponsorship and inspect the resulting detail.
- Verify sponsor, alias/target, fund, period, amount, frequency, ACTIVE state and record ID.
There can be only one ACTIVE or PAUSED sponsorship for the same sponsor and target. An ended one remains history. The same sponsor can support other targets, subject to the same checks.
Find and load choices
The list offers Status and Target-type filters, newest-first results and pagination. Show them opens the computed needs-transfer worklist; Show all returns to the normal list.
The current browser loads restricted funds from the first active-fund page, so an incomplete dropdown is not proof a fund does not exist. Facility choices use permitted Care facility listings or facilities derived from sponsorable alias profiles. Programme choices use permitted programme listings, with a numeric Programme id fallback when none are loaded. Verify supplied IDs; do not guess or grant confidential Care access solely to fill a picker.
If creation's response is uncertain, search/reload before retrying. Donation stored-intent replay is not implemented here. A duplicate-live conflict may indicate an existing ACTIVE/PAUSED commitment that should be reviewed instead.
